Let’s get started!
Drawing Supplies Needed
You can use any drawing supplies to draw a carnation, but here are the best tools for drawing.
Step 1: Draw the stem for the carnation

Starting at the bottom of the page, create two lines going upwards not too far from each other, getting wider at the top.
These shouldn’t be perfectly straight.
Step 2: Draw hourglass shape

Using an hourglass shape with a smaller bottom overlay on top of the end of the stem lines.
Step 3: Erase

Erase the overlapping lines
Step 4: Sketch the carnation flower lines

We’re going to start building the carnation, and to do that we need to make very jagged lines all around in a circle.
There should be no perfectly round shapes here, go wild!
At the same time add a little crescent moon for a leaf on the widest part of the stem.
Step 5: Repeat

Repeat this step on the inside of that shape we just made.
Connect some of these lines with the previous shape.
Step 6: Draw more jagged lines

Just as before create more jagged lines, starting to segment off parts of the largest shape.
Step 7: Repeat

Keep going and get creative with it!
Carnations are beautiful chaos.
Step 8: Add more lines that loop around

As you keep adding these lines make sure some are looped around, like in the very front.
Step 9: Petals will start to take shape

Now add some shorter and smaller lines that connect corners to other corners. you should start to see petals taking shape.
Step 10: Add thinner lines

Add thinner lines to these shapes at strategic locations where the lines concave inwards.
Step 11: Sketch lines all over flower

Add these lines all over the flower.
Step 12: Draw leaves on stem

On the stem add two more crescent moon leaves and then two stripes to the smaller bulb.
Step 13: Shade

Shade away!
